As we continue celebrating the achievements of registered apprenticeships and the opportunities apprenticeship can offer to under-represented populations, APHL takes this time to highlight the Urban Technology Project (UTP).
UTP has been providing under-represented individuals with access to tech careers since 2002. Under the sponsorship of Communities in Schools of Philadelphia, the Urban Technology Project is the first and continuously running IT apprenticeship in the commonwealth of PA since 2005. Currently, UTP has 59 registered apprentices and 24 pre-apprentices in one of the following career pathways: IT Support, Educational Technology and Software Development. The esteemed list of funders (School District of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Works, Inc., Safal Partners, AmeriCorps, and Opportunity at Work), training providers (NuPaths, and TechWorks), and partners (Launch of Philadelphia, Comcast, and Coded by Kids) are critical to the success of the program and apprentices. The team at UTP is passionate about increasing diversity in tech by providing access to low-income and underrepresented Philadelphians!
We salute UTP on their passion and commitment to increasing diversity in the tech industry. To learn more about UTP and their apprenticeship programs, visit our directory here.
