IT Apprentice

Markus Mitchell, a 23 year-old South Philadelphia native, holds the title of the first Information Technology (IT) Generalist Apprentice with JEVS Human Services (JEVS). Markus currently serves as a Help Desk Analyst with Orleans Technical College, a program of JEVS in Northeast Philadelphia. In this role, Markus is responsible for upgrading computer systems and providing technical support for the trade school, which serves approximately 360 students each year.

Building Trades Employer & Former Apprentice

Now President of Eureka Metal & Glass, Terry Webb’s career began as an apprentice. After attending college and deciding he wanted to run his own business, Terry was encouraged by a mentor to learn the Glazier’s (commercial glass & architectural metal installer) trade from the field installation perspective so he could better understand the craft. He heeded that advice and rode his apprenticeship experience to the top of Eureka Metal and Glass, a well-respected fabricator/installer of commercial interior and exterior glass. Eureka has worked on several notable properties including the Comcast Technology Center, The Beacon by Pearl, and the forthcoming Boyd redevelopment in Center City.

Healthcare Apprentice

Princess Wimberly is the first hired CVS Health Pharmacy Technician in the Southeastern Pennsylvania region. Her interest in working in the health care field started at a young age shadowing her grandmother’s health care career at Pennsylvania Hospital. Princess started the CVS Health externship in spring 2018 completing 160 pre-work hours and shortly after interviewed and was hired into the Pharmacy Technician apprenticeship role in July 2018. Through the apprenticeship she has come to appreciate that patience is key and has learned to understand that everyone has a story. She has enjoyed applying classroom lessons into practice at CVS Health.

IT Employer & Former Apprentice

Chris, Chief Technology Officer of Jarvus Innovations, has more than 15 years of experience with system architecture, app development, and systems administration. Over the past seven years, he has built more than 30 projects using Sencha’s Ext JS and Touch frameworks, for clients such as Time Warner Cable. In 2012 he organized and founded Code for Philly, a local volunteer chapter of the national nonprofit Code for America, and still serves as co-captain.
